The Real Thing Diner

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed it from my other posts, but I do love eating. In fact, of the many things Raphee and I have in common, this love for eating is probably on top of the list. Hence, our bonding sessions usually involve chewing, nibbling, munching, basically exercising our jaws and stuffing our tummies. And our latest food trip?

THE REAL THING DINER!

Stepping into the diner is like entering a Coca-Cola world. There’s no mistaking it with the red and white theme and the plentiful mementos that almost gives you a nostalgic feeling. Classic Coca-Cola commercials from all over the globe shown in a television by the counter, artistically painted walls still showcasing that signature calligraphy, Coke jingles playing on the background plus pictures, features and more proofs of the company’s long and enduring history found all over the diner.

But wait, there’s more! Opening the glass doors of the diner, you’d be welcomed by this showcase of timeless pieces designed in a true Coke fashion - that is, it is shaped like a Coke bottle. Sorry though for I wasn’t able to capture its entirety. Nonetheless, each step of the case contains unique and amazing Coca-Cola merchandise, thus making it look like a collector’s hub. And indeed, it is one such assembly of products from the personal collection of co-owner KV Golamco. Now I wonder if he’s the friendly staff who talked to us and gave us the promo cards. Haha!

Furthermore, the Coke vibe that is characteristic to the place doesn’t end with its interiors. The diner’s menu has whisks and splashes of Coca-Cola products and some of the foods even incorporate mixtures of the beverages.

Yup, we’re the first customers of the day! And up until we finished our lunch, no new customer arrived. So yeah, we basically had the place for ourselves. Now that’s sweet. Hihi. :”>

For our appetizer, dear and I had a plate of Sarsi Wings. Being the Sarsi person that I am, the very thought of buffalo wings glazed in a special Sarsi sauce just stirred up my curiosity. I just had to taste it. And I was in no way disappointed for the buffalo wings were crispy and sweet. Well that was something new considering that I am used to its spicy counterpart. I could also tell that Raphee liked them just as much. He kept on showering it with praises and was able to eat half of the serving in a blink of an eye. :))

As a thirst quencher, I ordered Cinnamon Snifter, a signature drink at The Real Thing Diner. It’s a symphony of Coca-Cola, Sarsi, cinnamon and vanilla ice cream in a sip. While it looks and tastes like an ordinary float (soft drinks with ice cream on top), you cannot actually say what soft drink it is in particular, which is precisely because it’s a mixture of two. It has that classic Coke flavor with a root beer kick here and there. As for Raphee, he just had a glass of water. Cornyyy! Hahaha joke lang dear! :*

For my main course, I had Sprite Chicken. It immediately got my eye and appetite the moment I saw the word “Spicy”, written in bold black letters, beside it on the menu. And as far as I can remember, it’s the one dish with that word so I went for it. In case you don’t know, spicy foods are my favourite. And once again, the diner din’t let me down. The chicken was oh-so-spicy! The moment I took my first spoonful, I felt like fire’s gonna erupt from my insides. It was also that good that I didn’t object when dear offered me his rice. I ate a quarter of it, I think. Haha!

On the other hand, Raphee had Coke Zero Fish Fingers. He’s on a diet. Haha! According to him, it tastes just like any ordinary fish fillet and eating a ‘finger’ made me agree to him. I guess the twist was on the Coke Zero sauce but I couldn’t really tell since I barely dipped my fish. I am usually hesitant in plunging my food in mayonnaise-looking sauces. I don’t like mayonnaise, its taste and especially its smell. So yeah, just try it for yourself and tell me what you think, k?

Due to insufficient money, we stopped on the main course. No desserts for us. :( But I do want to try Happily Appley or Coca-Cola Brownie a la mode. A Coca-cola brownie just sounds intriguing. Haha! Oh well, maybe next time. :)

Now, I know my review (I’m not even sure if it’s worthy to be called as such) sucks, so you might wanna check this out for a better one. It’s actually where I first learned about the diner. Saw it while I was planning for the LUXE bazaar which was held in Il Terrazzo, Tomas Morato, the same place where The Real Thing Diner is located.
